This review (open access) underscores a profound connection between the immune system and metabolic processes. Immune cells not only defend against pathogens but also influence metabolic pathways, while metabolic states can modulate immune responses. By delving into the mechanisms of this interplay, we can uncover novel therapeutics avenues to address metabolic and immune-related disorders.
“This paper aims to provide a new paradigm for the pathophysiology of prolidase deficiency by applying these new roles of prolidase to five of the most striking symptoms in PD: Chronic ulcers, recurrent infections, SLE, dysmorphic facial features and developmental delay. These alternative functions of prolidase will be discussed and integrated with current hypotheses to allow for a more comprehensive overview of the pathophysiology of prolidase deficiency. This approach aims to enhance the understanding of prolidase overall and open new avenues for treatment.”
